    Himalayan Elementary School in Melamchigau, Helambu, Nepal

    High in the Nepali Himalaya is a unique experiment in education. In a country where millions of people live in small villages in the foothills of the tallest mountains on earth, poor schools and lack of economic opportunity mean that villages are often very depopulated. This school in Melamchigau under the leadership of Purna Gautum is a thriving, healthy, public boarding school that offers an education comparable only to private schools.
