  • How hard is it to land a teaching job in Michigan?

Posted by admin on June 8th, 2010 and filed under teaching job | 1 Comment »

I’m just graduating and I’m considering going into teaching (high school), journalism or law. Teaching being number one and I’m always seeing subs at my school saying they can’t find an actual job and such. Is it that bad?

The competition is tough. The colleges are turning out many teachers. If you are willing to move, your chances are better. Teachers retire every year.

How do I apply for a teaching job in the US if I am a foreign citizen?

My sister-in-law would like to apply for a teaching job in the US but does not know what the process for applying is. She is a recent graduate from university but is having difficulties finding a job in the Caribbean.

Each state has different qualifications and paperwork for becoming a teacher too. Be sure you check those out.

Will casino dealing experience look bad on my resume if I look for a teaching job?

Posted by admin on April 6th, 2010 and filed under teaching job | 2 Comments »

I want to be a casino dealer to earn tuition fees for a local teaching credential program. And hopefully, I will find a teaching job in a public school after graduation. Will casino dealing experience have a negative impact on my resume ?

    Hi!

It depends on how your word it on your resume. If you just simply write: Casino Dealer, dealt cards .. (lol) it wont look so flash.

Although, when it comes time to apply for teaching jobs – look at not just listing what you did as a casino dealer – but word it in ways which place emphasis on the transferable skills and aspects of the role. Things such as patience, staying calm under pressure … etc

You would also want to make note of the fact that this was a part time or casual job (or similar) while you were studying.

I don’t think working as a casino dealer will hurt you in reality – as everyone has to work hard to get to where they want to be. But it all comes down to how you word it on your resume.

    Good luck!

how important is college GPA when looking for a teaching job?

I am currently a college student who is trying to become a high school teacher. I have a gpa of right around 3.0. how important is my GPA in finding a high school teaching job?

It’s somewhat important. Employers also check for what grades were obtained in the relevant courses for that particular job. For example, if you want to teach math, hopefully you have good grades in math and education courses. Your GPA generally should be fine, I think.

Will working for a few years before I start teaching hurt my chances of getting a teaching job?

Posted by admin on February 14th, 2010 and filed under teaching job | 3 Comments »

I’m working on my masters in math. I like teaching and would like to get a job teaching at a community college. I have a bachelors degree that can earn me more money though, so I was thinking of taking a (somewhat math related) job for a few years. Then after earning some money and paying back loans trying to find a teaching gig.

Do you think this will hurt my chances of getting hired as a teacher at a community college?

If you have a degree – or any extra qualification – then you’ll already be in advace of of the bunch when it comes to hunting for jobs. My mate has a degree and he wasn’t sure what direction to go with it, but he found some great guidance on the site in the resource box below which aided him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is loads of assistance on the site regarding extra jobs.

What can I do to be competitive in the job market? -Teaching?

I’m a sophomore in college, and I’m majoring in math. I’m getting a secondary teaching certificate as well. I have a good GPA, but I don’t have much else to put on my resume. I’m worried about not being able to get a teaching job after I graduate. What kinds of things can I do now to improve my chances of getting a job in the future?

It’s great that you are taking the initiative to do your research now before it’s too late. It is getting more competitive for all jobs and will be more so in the near future.

It is important for you to have relevant work experience on your resume. Tutoring is something that you may wish to consider. Place a ad at your college. Also volunteering at the local school where children may need assistance with reading or homework. Give them a call and ask how you can be involved. Otherwise try applying for casual work at a bookshop or somewhere else that may be relevant to your studies. Good Luck, Vicki

Is it hard to find a teaching job nowadays?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2010 and filed under teaching job | 8 Comments »

i still have 2 and a half years to even start college, but as of now, is it difficult to find a teaching job?

It depends on where you are willing to teach. In poor areas or inner-city areas where teaching is more of a challenge than usual, jobs are a bit easier to come by. Areas where it’s a more favorable living area, such as suburban areas it’s more difficult because the competition for the jobs is greater. Be flexible on where you are willing to teach when you start out. If you do a good job and get some experience and good references, you can more easily move to where you want to teach.

I am hoping to move from Michigan to North Carolina to find a teaching job.Is this a good idea?

I am going down there next week for the Teacher Job Fair. Has anyone else relocated to North Carolina and found a teaching job? Are you happy there?

Teaching jobs are fairly easy to find in North Carolina. You didn’t say what you will be teaching but it shouldn’t be a problem, I would say if you can find an opening in the Piedmont Triad that would be the best place to live and teach.I live in Winston-Salem and we are not too far from the coast or mountains. I have lived in other states but no place like North Carolina. And we have nice weather year round–like everywhere you will have extreme temps. sometimes.
    Good luck !!!!
ps. You would love being a Tar heel !!

Is a person’s credit rating taken into account when applying for a teaching job?

Posted by admin on December 19th, 2009 and filed under teaching job | 7 Comments »

My sister wants to be a teacher- but she has bad credit- would a potential employer do a credit check before hiring her? Shes worried her past credit card debt might hurt her chances to landing a teaching job..

No and thank god. I also have bad credit and I still work in a school.

They will run a background check on you. But, it’s to make sure you have not committed any crimes, been in trouble with the law, etc.
