  • How is middle school and high school different when it comes to drama?

Posted by admin on July 15th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 15 Comments »

Our middle school had so much drama in it. If you sat with the preps, they would pretty much glare at you till you left. And thats just small stuff.

So interms of drama in high school is it different? or is it the same? Im a freshman this year, so i was mostly curious
I have heard the school im going to is way more laid back then my midddle school, but thats just with its rules.

I go to a performing arts high school, so pretty much all the drama is stuff like fighting over parts in upcoming shows and like being competitive.
But in regular high schools, it’s more like who’s the latest 16 year old to get pregnant, what drugs you took in the last weekend, why you got kicked out of your house. But not everyone’s like that.

How do you become a middle school teacher?

Posted by admin on July 11th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 3 Comments »

I am currently attending college as a history major. I have one more year left before I graduate with a bachelors degree. However, I have recently started thinking about the possibility of becoming a middle school social studies teacher. Do I need an education degree? Or is it possible to use my history degree?

Your history degree is fine however, you will want to RUSH to the education department at your college and allow an advisor provide you with the additional educational courses you will need to take. There are required courses to ensure you have the state’s requirements to teach. After that, your advisor will help you select a middle school where you can begin ’student teaching’. Usually, you will observe the teacher in that class for a short period of time -and then you will be allowed to teach a lesson for several weeks. During this time, you are acting just as the teacher. You’ll take attendance, do hall duty, attend planning and collaborative meetings, staff meetings and whatever the regular teacher would do. When you complete this portion of your study – you will be directed to take the PRAXIS exam, and also your state’s history exam (or whatever subjects you are going to teach). THEN you can become licensed and start looking for a teaching position.

The rules have changed so much over the years because the requirements for teaching have become more strict. I pray that you are clear about your decision and do ask questions. Many of us teach multiple subject matter. While I majored in Sociology at my college, my minor was English and I had an abundance of credits in history. These helped me in many ways. My certification is for grades 7-12 and I am able to teach, middle school (Lang Arts,Social Studies) Reading, Speech, and other Related Arts classes). In high school, I am certified to teach – English, History).

Be sure to engage in a good question and answer session with your advisor. They can guide you all the way. Good luck!

What are some stereotypes of middle school?

Posted by admin on June 16th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 3 Comments »

I want to know what some stereotypes of middle school can be. Not exactly the people, just middle school. Not really stereotypes, just key elements. Like what middle-schoolers do. I need this for a poem I’m trying to write for 8th grade graduation.

there’s a stereotype that kids’ brains take a break from learning during middle school..

there’s a stereotype that middle school is nothing more than "high school preparation school"..

there’s a stereotype that middle school kids are the worst behaved of any age..

What should I say to my middle school piers in youth group about making good choices?

Posted by admin on May 7th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 1 Comment »

I am 14 in 8th grade preparing to talk to my whole youth group 6-8th grade about making good, Godly choices this coming school year. I am a little stuck right now. Any help would be really appreciated and will not only help me, but my fellow middle schoolers i will be speaking to.

Tell them about how special and unique they are and that all their choices would lead to success in life, they need to try to follow their dreams as much as possible. If they are involved with sporting activities, encourage them to continue. Also make sure that they always do have a choice, making the right choice is difficult but they need to learn to make good ones by first of all following instinct and rules. Using Positive energy and following your conscience is also very helpful in making good decisions.

What is the best clarinet for a middle school student?

Posted by admin on April 14th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 4 Comments »

I am in 7th grade, but in the 8th grade band.My lessons teacher says I have more than high school talent, and I take lessons with high schoolers. I am good, but I have a bad clarinet. I have a vito, which is not the best. What would be the best clarinet for me? Not so much as a middle school student but a person with skills in clarinet.

If you want an intermediate clarinet, I would recommend the Buffet E11.

How likely are high school and middle school relationships to end in marriage?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 8 Comments »

    Im curious [:
I never dated when I was in school but from what I remember all my best friends in middle school , their boyfriends broke up with them after like a week LOLOL .In high school .. Ehh things are a blurry memory for high school .. All I remember was studying -.-

Even if they get married the likelihood that it will last is abysmal.
You think you’ve got the world figured out at that age and you refuse to listen to anyone who knows what the heck they are talking about. There is a reason there is a driving, drinking, voting and legal age to marry. We don’t let children make life changing decisions on their own.

How can a middle school student get a head start on becoming a science teacher?

Posted by admin on March 28th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 3 Comments »

I’m 13 years old and I really want to be a middle school science teacher. My best friend and I found a middle school that said they would take me as a science teacher and her as a music teacher. I really can’t wait to start for real and I want to know how I can get ahead and start my studies.(And if its possible, classes) I won’t be able to pay for anything at the moment, but I’d really like some help on this.

Sounds like you’re serious! Okay! Well, as far as your schooling goes–take ALL the science classes you can. This also goes for math classes. They go together. When you get to high school, continue this trend. Hopefully, that will include physics and calculus classes.

Over the summers, see if you can get into summer science camps–and eventually even work at these camps as a counselor in the summers. Also, get buddy-buddy with your science teachers (after they get to know you and your work ethic) and ask them if you can TA for them (my school only allows juniors/seniors to TA for teachers but it’s incredibly helpful). Also ask if they know of any programs you can get into or people that you should meet.

Eventually, you’re going to want to observe science teachers in the classroom after you leave high school. It’s hard to see the other side (the teaching side) and fully understand it until you leave your high school life/world behind (check out both middle and high school classes). Look into colleges and universities that have strong education and science departments. If they do their job to help you, you’ll be in and out of college in four years–and with two degrees.

I do want to note that it’s not a bad idea to keep your mind open to other things you love. Take fun classes in high school (while they’re free to you ;) and see what else interests you. Even if you’re set on teaching science, you’re going to need a break every so often. So take some time to find other things you enjoy. Good luck. Science rocks. ;)

Note: When you go to observe science classes, go to different schools. Each school (and district) is run a little differently. Get a feel for it. You’ll have an even better idea of what you like when you student teach. Science is going to be a big need area very soon, so when you’re ready, you could have some great choices to choose from.

How can we bring back middle school sports?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 1 Comment »

Due to the recession, our middle school will be cutting out all middle school sports next year. My school is a very athletic school, and most things are sports centered and sports related. Without them, school won’t be as fun or interesting, and many of the things we normally do won’t happen because without the sports, there will be no reason to have them (Pep rallies, for example). What can we do to convince the state or school system to bring back our middle school sports?

start a petition. make a page that explains why you should have sports and get a LOT of people to sign it. explain on the page about why you think sports benefits you. if you get enough people to sign it im pretty sure they would reconsider getting rid of all sports. GOOD LUCK!
