  • Could anyone with knowledge in the education department help me out with a problem please?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2010 and filed under department of education | 1 Comment »

Could anyone post a link to a site or reference stating where the law stands on teachers and their students.

More importantly containing elements of corruption and how far teachers can go in ‘abusive’ and ‘emotion’ status of their students.

Many thanks. I know it is a bit vague but I’m having a hard time to put it in a simple question while still trying to get all the details in.

    nope

    not sorry

Is it hard to find a teaching job nowadays?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2010 and filed under teaching job | 8 Comments »

i still have 2 and a half years to even start college, but as of now, is it difficult to find a teaching job?

It depends on where you are willing to teach. In poor areas or inner-city areas where teaching is more of a challenge than usual, jobs are a bit easier to come by. Areas where it’s a more favorable living area, such as suburban areas it’s more difficult because the competition for the jobs is greater. Be flexible on where you are willing to teach when you start out. If you do a good job and get some experience and good references, you can more easily move to where you want to teach.

How to make a complaint against workers at the Department of Education?

Posted by admin on January 23rd, 2010 and filed under department of education | 1 Comment »

Obviously I feel compelled to complain about some people at the Dep. of Ed. that I feel mistreated me. I was wondering if anyone knew of a means or resource to do this. Thanks to all who reply.
It was Federal and it does not concern a protected status. It’s nothing as serious as that. I doubt what they did was breaking the law. But I would say their actions are preventing me from keeping the law. Still they need to be reported because their jobs are important and people like this should not be in such places of importance.

That depends on a lot of things. State or federal or local department of education? Did they mistreat you for a protected status (age, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, etc.) Did they violate the laws or their own rules?

If it was a protected status, then complain to your state eeoc or American Civil Liberties Union.

If it was one of the others, find out if they have an ombudsperson and contact him/her. Otherwise, contact the head of the agency or your local representative, state or federal.

Make sure that what you think is mistreatment was that and not just following the law.

What do you think of special education schools?

Posted by admin on January 23rd, 2010 and filed under special education | 6 Comments »

My son is going to be transitioning into a special education school that focuses on his behavior problems and learning disability. He has ADHD, anger problems and a Communication Learning Disability pertaining to reading, writing, memory and symbols.

Have your children benefited from it? (I know every school is different).

Honestly, I wish that all schools could be staffed with properly trained teachers so that children who learn differently than required for success in a standard, poorly constructed, classroom could still learn successfully with everyone else.

That’s a loaded answer, I know. But, the way most traditional classrooms just don’t work well for a lot of students to learn, even ones with out labeled conditions. If you can find a classroom with well trained teachers who understand how to create a learning environment where children can actually learn, by all means take advantage of it.

I’d suggest you watch for the end goal this school has for their students, since ultimately, your son will need to turn into an adult who simply functions and does well. He’ll need to walk out of the school having mastered a set of skills that will let him leave behind (for most purposes) his ADHD, anger problem, and CLD labels. If the school is working towards that, great. If they’re handling their students in a way that prepares them to spend their entire life saying "I have ADHD, anger problems, and a CLD, so that explains why I act the way I do", you may want to find a way around that.

What is the difference between a Social Studies course and a History course?

Posted by admin on January 23rd, 2010 and filed under social studies | 1 Comment »

I’m looking into colleges, and one requires 2 years of a history course, and 2 years of a social studies course, while another recommends four years of history and four years of social studies. What’s the difference? I need to know ASAP, so I know what courses I need to take for next year in order to be able to apply there. Thanks!

Social Studies (more commonly Social Sciences) are Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Economics, Political Science, Linguistics, law.

History is part of the Humanities. The Humanities are History, English (or any other language), Classics, Performing Arts, Film, Literature, Philosophy, Religion, Visual Arts.

Social Sciences use empirical methodologies, whereas the Humanities use subjective, specualtive analysis.

What do you think the Department of Education does? Would you vote to eliminate it?

Posted by admin on January 21st, 2010 and filed under department of education | 7 Comments »

For the cost of about $100,000,000,000.00 last year (100 billion), does it do more, or less than you thought?
At the department of ed site, it says that "Department officials be prohibited from exercising "any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system."

So we pay $100 Billion per year to collect stat.

I would vote to eliminate it at the Federal level. It needs to be run by the individual states and customized by the states to meet their particular needs. The Feds could divide the money it now collects and send it to the states.

Why do we need a Federal Department of Education?

Posted by admin on January 19th, 2010 and filed under department of education | 1 Comment »

Is there a liberal here (or a conservative even) that can see the huge fed agency for education is completely a waste of money?

    Is there one?

Are you saying your State Gov’t can’t handle it?

    Or your Local Government?

Does anyone want George Bush, or Bill Clinton in charge of educating their children?

Please.. can’t we just dismantle it. Any one in agreement?

I completely agree, Im a conservative,Not voting for McCain or Obama.
The Dept of Education, which does nothing, accounts for $68 billion dollars in annual budget. $12 billion is distributed to the states for schools. That is a $56 billion hole which is dumped into failed programs like No Child Left Behind and other nonsense

How long should i take piano lessons?

Posted by admin on January 19th, 2010 and filed under piano lessons | 7 Comments »

I’ve been taking piano lessons for the last six years, and can sight read, read notes, play well, etc. Im 13 and have been thinking about stopping taking lessons. Piano isnt something i want to pursue as a career, but rather as enjoyment. I still want to play it casually at home or for others, but I think 6 years is enough, thoughts?

It is entirely up to you. Stop lessons if you feel like it. If you find you are ’slipping’ in ability and want to keep it, you might want to go back to lessons. If you find yourself playing less, maybe you are not that interested. If you are playing as often, and are happy with it, there you go.

The only thing to consider is not acting or being ‘flaky’ like an on-off switch as far as instruction goes. If you stop, stop for at least nine months to a year, long enough to see what happens and see if you want to return to taking lessons. If you return, commit to at least one year.

    best regards.

Is the purpose of the Department of Education to indoctrinate or to educate?

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010 and filed under department of education | 6 Comments »

Ever since its creation our education standards have fell in respect to other countries.

excellent question-We have too many other things being lobbied for and accepted as curriculum in our public schools global warming, every ethnicity wants its history to be taught add to that sex ed.special ed.(some so severely disabled they need individual teachers)add to that lazy teachers who all seem to need a teaching assistant in the classroom, school breakfast and lunch and after school programs there’s no time nor money left to educate our children in what will actually help become productive adults.
