I’ve been teaching in the local state college in the U.S. for over 10 years in the adult education division. I wish to find a job teaching language courses, Chinese and/or English. Also, I can teach computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suites.
Check out this page: http://www.dubaifaqs.com/teaching-in-dubai.php
It’s very comprehensive for people who are looking for teaching jobs in Dubai.
Good luck!
After this summer i will be entering high school. Is it that much different from middle school? Any tips?
From personal experience middle school felt like highschool, which should be the othe way around right? But for me it wasn’t we drank ,party, smoke because we didn’t at moment have to worry about important grades or college but when we got to highschool eveything change and so did the people sometimes for the worst and sometimes for the best. Basically you goota be happy with youself to get through highschool. Even though were suppose to be maturing, people still act like their in elementary school. Try to make new friends cause you will lose some of you ald ones. But highschool is fun and are the best years you will ever have.
When was special education started, why was special education started?
10 points will be awarded for the best answer.
Public Law (PL) 94-142) or the then-named Education for All Handicapped Children Act was signed into law in 1975 because school-aged children with disabilities were either being excluded from public schools, being given inadequate or inappropriate public educations when they were admitted.
Only 1 in 5 children with disabilites were being educated before the law’s passage.
This act also requires that parents be given opportunities and resources to seek redress when they disagree with a placement (the IEP meeting and appeals process). Schools lack unilateral power to classify and place students in special education programs.
Today, more than 6 million children recieve special education services.
And reccent amendments to the law place greater emphasis on ensuring successful post-school transition for students and providing expanded services until 21 for elgible students whose disabilities are deemed severe enough for them to be retained in the public school environment.
The law is now renamed the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
U.S. Supreme Court decisions
[edit] Schaffer v. Weast
On November 14, 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court held in Schaffer v. Weast, 126 S.Ct. 528, that moving parties in a placement challenge hold the burden of persuasion. While this is an accord with the usual legal thinking, the moving party is almost always the parents of a child.
[edit] Arlington v. Murphy
On June 26, 2006 the Supreme Court held in Arlington v. Murphy, 126 S.Ct. 2455, that prevailing parents may not recover expert witness fees as part of the costs under 20 U.S.C.ยง 1415(i)(3)(B).
[edit] Winkelman v. Parma City School District
On May 21, 2007 the Supreme Court held in Winkelman v. Parma City School District, 127 S.Ct. 1994, that parents have independent enforceable rights under the IDEA and may appear pro se on behalf of their children.
Forest Grove School District v. T.A.
The case of Forest Grove School District v. T.A., argued before the Supreme Court on April 28, 2009, addresses the issue of whether the parents of a student who has never received special education services from a public school district are potentially eligible for reimbursement of private school tuition for that student under the IDEA.[23] On June 22, 2009 the Supreme Court held that parents of disabled children can seek reimbursement for private education expenses regardless whether their child had previously received special-education services from a public school. By a vote of six to three, the Court held that the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) authorizes reimbursement whenever a public school fails to make a free appropriate public education (FAPE) available to a disabled child.
So if I start taking piano lessons, is it ok to practice on a keyboard, but not a real piano? I’m concerned because on a piano the strength of your fingers are important for effects. However on a keyboard it sounds the same whether you punch or press a key. So is it ok?
It’s very important that you get used to the feel of a real piano. If one isn’t available I would suggest practicing on a digital one that has weighted keys. You could practice on the keyboard but when you go to the real piano it’s going to feel a bit weird. I used to practice on a digital and everything went smoothly. Then when I switched to a real piano I found that suddenly things weren’t as easy as I thought. Trills and repeated notes are easy on a keyboard but on a real piano you have to use proper technique to execute them adequately. Also the piano can give a wide range of tones and even the best digital cannot do this. Ear training is just as important as proper technique. Good Luck!
I’m new at teaching and I’ll be tackling Korean students (most probably middle school kids). I have to develop a good lesson plan involving mainly conversations but I am a bit lost. I need help setting up a good lesson plan which I will have to present to the new school in which I’ll be working soon.
Oy; the scope of the question is a little beyond the space and time here, but I can give you some tips.
Essentially, you need to break the lessons into both themes and grammatical functions. I would recommend creating a series of modular lessons that follow the following structure:
Step 1: Introduce a simple conversation (that covers what it introduced in the section)
Step 2: Vocabulary, broken into nouns, verbs, adjectives, phrases, etc.
Step 3: Integrated conversation: have a simple conversation about a module subject, and have three or four different words that could be used in the sentence. Go around the room and have two classmates perform the conversation, using different words for each group.
Step 4: Have a photo, ask specific questions about the photo that require students to fill in the blanks from the module
Step 5: Have students write a short paragraph about themselves, tying in the subject material being used.
This modularization can contain simple themes like:
Greetings
School
At the park
Going to the movies
Sports
Seasons
Pets
Most importantly, write a learning objective (a statement of what students should be able to do after completing the lesson) for each and every module.
Best of luck!
I am in 8th grade age 13 and wish to be an 8th grade social studies teacher at the school I go to now. I would like to know the courses I should try to take in high school, and what I would have to do in college. I was also wondering that when I do fulfill the requiremnets how I would get this job in my school. Please answer to the best of you ability. Thank you.
Congratulations! Making that decision is the first step. Please keep in mind that you may change your mind (like a million times) before you start a career, but I sure hope that you don’t!
Here are a few suggestions!
1. Take as many social studies/history courses as you can in high school.
2. Talk to your SS teacher(s) and ask them what school(s) they attended, if they would recommend them and what they had to do.
3. Research colleges and universities to see what programs are offered for social studies and for teachers.
One thing to remember is this: it is sometimes a good idea to major in two areas, not just one, when becoming a teacher. It makes you more marketable. For example, a friend of mine was certified to teach social studies and Spanish. She actually got her first job teaching Spanish and loved it! Another friend was certified for French and English and taught both for a long time. She loved the flexibility and the different types of courses that she could teach.
Good luck, my young friend! You should start a Future Teachers of America club at your school if you don’t have one already!
can i apply for private school going into 10th grade? i’m going into 9th grade, now, but it’s to late to apply. if i can what are good private schools in the boston area?
If you call up one of the schools you really want to go to, and beg them hard enough, they might give you a chance. I go to a private all-girls schools (and I LOVE IT!!! – best decision of my life), and several girls said they applied late but were still able to take the entrance exam, even the summer before the year they went. Yes you can apply for 10th grade, but it is a LOT harder to get in, and you would be better off going 9th grade. I really don’t know any in the boston area; I live in Buffalo, but I applaud your decision and suggest you do anything possible to get in now.
I live in central NC and have been wanting for years to go see a local elementary school christmas play. I’m not yet a parent (TTC), so I don’t know how to find out; they don’t seem to publicize them. I used to be in these kinds of plays when I was little and I thought it would be really fun to go see one of these. Any suggestions on where to look/how to find out?
You should be able to call some schools in your area and ask them if they have Christmas programs or not. Some churches also has Christmas plays.
I am trying to incorporate the works of Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley and Robert Sherwood. Has anyone ever done a unit like this? I need some help for the lesson plans. Thanks!
Heh. I wonder what they would have said about Yahoo Answers.
About all I can think of is to simply have the students read their stories. Most are short and fairly straightforward.
But I wonder if you’re prepared to deal with the writers, instead of the writings. None of these folks was ever rumored to be particularly happy, and a lot of alcohol was served there at the Algonquin.
It is interesting, however, that while most writers are solitary creatures and unable to take much solace in the company of others, especially other writers, these people were able to keep each company for as long as they did. Perhaps there’s something there that’s worth examining.
